Daily Blog Post 11 May 2014 (includes the 9th-10th)

First and foremost.  Happy Mothers Day to everyone who has had the mild displeasure of metaphorically speaking squeezing a watermelon through a garden hose.  I have a lot of respect for anyone who is willing to endure that form of pain for someone they love (and to get technical, whom they have never met before).  I sat by, excited as always for my kid to show up and 2 months later, I don’t know how any parent can “long” for the days of colic and teething at the same time 🙂  I’m sure I’ll get the rose tinted glasses as well one day.

Friday continued my birdemic.  The goose was there as always, but I managed to get by it without stiring it this time.  At work, I decided to put in some new wall jacks for USB extensions.  I have mentioned it before, but I abhore when techs have crappy cable management skills.  It looks horrendous and it gives the impression that the tech doesn’t care about there job.  We had some emergencies with some of our wires over the past few weeks and had to do some extremely rushed jobs at rerouting cables.  Well Friday was the day I fixed that and made it back to a clean fix.  The new guys did an excellent job with me.  I definitely needed help with that project as it wasn’t a single man job.  That and I seem to have a knack for cutting my hand with power drills.  Well it is done now and everything looks great.  I’m sure my boss will appreciate the better looking setup.  There is a few more minor details to work with, but they are just that.  Minor details.  Then the day ended, and it was time for me to leave.  I wasn’t so lucky when I was walking out to my car.  The goose picked up on me as I was walking into the parking lot.  It always happens the same way.  First, there is just a glance in my direction.  Then it locks.  It gets up and starts walking.  Slow at first, then it picks up its pace as it gets closer.  As it gets about 10 yards away its head starts to dip down.  Its feathers ruffle and it starts to fly.  Luckily for me, I had my bottle with me.  I don’t know what it is about that plastic, but they hate it.  I crinkled it right before it started flying and it immediately turned away and backed off.  I got into my car and it just stared at me.  Again as soon as I backed up it started following.  I didn’t care this time, I was ready for it and I headed out.

The idea of going out to a resteraunt on mothers day that doesnt have reservations is rather less than appealing.  I decided to go on saturday instead.  Really it was her who decided saturday was a better idea, but I am ok with that.  We went to Long horn Steak House and there was just about noone there.  We picked the perfect time on the perfect day.  We then went home and watched the sword in the stone.  The old disney movie.  Things went extremely well and I couldn’t have asked for a better pre-mothers day.

Today went smoothly.  I finished all of my school work early, so we had time to finish watching all of The Third season of The Game Of Thrones.  That tv show is amazingly produced.  I’ve read the books, and typically, that doesnt matter.  Here on the other hand, it gives me enough insight to realize they have changed it just enough to keep me on my toes.  It doesn’t matter that I have read it, and unlike some books that go TV, it came out perfectly!  Either way, my wife has decided to attend online classes now.  She is going to start in the fall term (or the next real term which is in june.)  She is looking into Business Administration and I am sure she will do awesome.  She has the strength and charisma, if not the experience of a leader.  I am sure she will do fine.

What I Learned Today:  There are 13 DNS root servers, spread throughout the entire world.  Each one is maintained by a different organization and has different forms of security.  If you took them all down, it would be a week before anyone even noticed, and even then, it could be prolonged if the right people knew about it quick enough.
